Hair without boundaries for one of fashion’s most unconventional names.

James Lear brought his craft to Paris for Sasha Colby’s Dolls Folies — a landmark takeover of the legendary Folies Bergère featuring an international cast of performers dressed by avant-garde fashion label Matières Fécales.

Working as part of the creative team behind the show, James delivered hair designed to exist within a world where fashion, performance and transformation collide.

It was an environment made for his approach. Bold characters. Extreme silhouettes. Unconventional beauty. Hair with the freedom to become part of the performance rather than simply finish the look.

The show brought together names including Sasha Colby, Amanda Lepore and Gigi Goode, with Matières Fécales creating the sculptural, subversive fashion that defined its visual identity.

James has also collaborated with Matières Fécales beyond the stage, bringing his approach to hair into a dedicated fashion shoot for the brand — pushing beyond traditional beauty and using hair as part of the character, attitude and creative direction.

Unconventional fashion. Uncompromising characters. Hair to match.

The Folies Bergère project was subsequently featured by Vogue, documenting the people, fashion and creative energy behind the night.
